RCA goes Digital!

Greetings from Rajarajeshwarinagar Cultural Association!
We have all seen a huge change in our routines as our lives are upheaved by the unforeseen situation caused by the alarming NCOVID 19 Outbreak. We have learnt to gradually accept the “new normal” and have adapted big and small changes ensuring our well being and safety.
Consequently, it becomes equally important for us to think of newer ways to reconnect with the fine art forms as we constantly try to reform and reinvent ourselves. After a lot of thought and discussion and considering the health and safety of our esteemed Artistes and Rasikas with utmost importance, the members of the Managing Committee of Rajarajeshwarinagar Cultural Association(R.) are pleased to announce that we have decided to turn digital!
We have subsequently hosted our first Facebook Live Concert, a thematic Vocal Recital of Sri Thyagaraja Samudaaya Kritis on 1st August 2020 which was well received.

RAMANAVAMI SANGEETOTSAVA 2019

Rajarajeshwari Nagar celebrates Rama through Music & Dance!


The music season starting from Ugadi is a time for celebration and cheer for art lovers in Bengaluru, as they look forward to the variety of cultural events that is offered to them.


A Brain Child of veteran Classical Musician Swara Kokila Vidushi Late Smt. Jahnavi Jayaprakash, the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Cultural Association (RCA) was formed along with likeminded art enthusiasts with an idea to promote and to bring the best of Indian Classical Music, Dance & Art Forms to the residents in and around Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The Association honors a senior musician/dancer/dance teacher every year with Sri Tyagaraja Prashasti or Sri Purandaradasa Prashasti along with Bengaluru Nagarathna Memorial Trust which was also instituted by Late Smt. Jahnavi Jayaprakash.


This music season saw RCA celebrate the 18th edition of their annual Ramanavami Sangeetotsava with grandeur, in all its glory, over a period of 9 days, from 07th April 2019 to 15th April 2019 at Munivenkataiah Bayalu Ranga Mandira, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru.

Ramanavami Sangeetotsava 2019 was inaugurated by the noted musician Vidwan R Suryaprakash. The festival featured individual and group performances by young artistes, every evening at 5 30 PM, with an aim to provide a platform to nurture and encourage budding musicians to showcase their talent. Swara Kokila Vidushi Jahnavi Jayaprakash memorial Carnatic Vocal & Classical Dance competitions were also conducted by the association in order to promote young talent.

The highlights of the festival were the main concerts by renowned artistes from all over the nation that were held every evening from 6 30 PM

This year’s Ramanavami Sangeetotsava comprised of a Vocal Recital by Vidwan R Suryaprakash, Carnatic Vocal Duet by Padma Shri Awardees Vidwan R N Thyagarajan & Vidwan Dr. R N Tharanathan (Rudrapatnam Brothers), a Vocal Recital by Vidushi S K Mahathi (from Vadodara), an instrumental ensemble featuring Lalitha Kala Suma Vidwan Yeshaswi, Vidwan Ranjan Kumar Beaura (Violin Duet), Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma, Vidwan Gurumoorthy Vaidya, Carnatic Vocal Duet Recital by Vidushi Sindhu Suchetan & Vidushi H M Smitha, Carnatic Vocal Recitals by Vidwan Madurai T N S Krishna & Vidushi Dr. Hamsini Nagendra. The festival also saw its youngest performer in the prodigious Vidwan Ramana Balachandhran in a Veena Recital.

Eminent Kuchipudi Exponent Guru B S Sunanda Devi was awarded the Purandaradasa Prashasti for 2019 by RCA along with Bengaluru Nagarathna Memorial Trust. The award was conferred to her by the chief guests, the illustrious couple Smt. Yamuna Gopinath and Sri Gopinath, the Hon. Secretary and President of Kinkini, one of the leading organizations of Karnataka, involved in the promotion of Indian classical dance forms.

The 9-Day long celebrations culminated befittingly with the Dance Performances on the last day. Acclaimed Mohiniyattam dancer Vidushi Sreedevi Unni and her Disciples presented a dance recital themed “Mandodari Seeta”. The evening also saw a Kathak Recital by Disciples of Kathak exponent Guru Mysore Nagaraj themed “Rama O Rama” which was also well received by the audience.

Nritya Jahnavi – Dance Festival 2017

Nritya Jahnavi Dance Festival as a tribute to the Lord of Cosmic Dance Nataraja, celebrating Shivaratri was held on 26/02/2017 and was a successful and memorable event.

Inauguration by Chief Guest: Karnataka Kalashree Guru B K Shyam Prakash

gurubkspKarnataka Kalashree Guru B K Shyam Prakash is the Founder Director of Samskruthi Bhavan, Keshava College of Music and Dance(Affiliated to BU) &Keshava Samskruthi Sabha. He is the son of Late Natyacharya Sri H R Keshava Murthy & Smt Sharadamma. He has been teaching Bharatanatyam at Keshava Nrithyashala for over 30 years.

Bharatanatyam Recital by Vidwan Ramu Kanagal & Disciples

ramu-kanagalSri Ramu Kanagal is the son of legendary film maker Sri Puttanna Kanagal and Smt. Lakshmi Puttanna, and is a passionate artist and teacher.

Sri Ramu Kanagal has learnt Bharatanatyam from Gurus Vidushi Malathy Srinivasan (Kalakshetra, Chennai), Vidushi Radha Shreedhar (Venkatesha Natya Mandir, Bangalore), and Vidushi Maya Rao (Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bangalore). He has an MA (MPA) in Dance from Bangalore University and has been awarded scholarship from the Human Resources Department, Government of India. He is one of the empanelled artists of the ICCR and a Grade-B artist of the Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra.

Bharatanatyam Recital by Vidushi Dwaritha Viswanatha & Disciples

dwarithaVidushi Dwaritha Viswanatha started her dance training at a very tender age. She is trained from the world renowned Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale’s Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts where she completed her diploma course in Bharatanatyam.

In the year 2002, she graduated from Kalai Kaviri with Distinction in BFA, a degree awarded by The Bharathidasan University in Bharatanatyam.

She has a Masters’ degree in Sanskrit and she is now a Doctor of Philosophy for her thesis entitled “The Ashtavidha Nayikas and their exposition in dance forms”.

Rajarajeshwarinagar Cultural Association (R.) – About us

The Rajarajeshwarinagar Cultural Association (R.), a brain child of Vidushi Smt. Jahnavi Jayaprakash was founded in the year 2001 in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, to encourage and popularise Indian Classical Music and Dance Forms.

The Association conducts monthly music concerts, a 9 day music & dance extravaganza during Ramanavami, a grand series of concerts during Dasara, Nritya Jahnavi – A Dance Festival during Shivarathri, Programmes for Childrens’ Day, Women’s Day, Vidushi Jahnavi Memorial Music and Dance Competitions for budding musicians and dancers, ever year.

Every year, a senior musician or a Dancer is felicitated with the Tyagaraja/Purandara prashasti during the Ramanavami Sangeethotsava. Also, every year, a Woman achiever from Rajarajeshwari Nagar is identified, recognised and honored for her accomplishments during the International Women’s Day celebrations.
